With the most outstanding performances in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Devis Epassy leaves from second choice goalkeeper to the main man, and then going on to keep a clean sheet against Brazil.

Epassy was in goal against Brazil for only his 7th national team appearance, and his fine performance earned him a man of the match award. The Abha man faced 7 shots on target and wasn’t beaten for once all evening. He became the first goalkeeper to do so in this World Cup.

29-year-old Epassy was thrown into the fray for Cameroon’s second game due to the rustication of Indomitable Lions first choice Andre Onana. The latter conceded 3 against Serbia, but made save after save, as the Indomitable Lions beat Brazil 1-0.

Epassy becomes the second Cameroonian player to win this accolade after Vincent Aboubakar, who equally scored Cameroon’s lone goal and was shown red in the evening.

Epassy joins the prestigious list of: Aïssa Aidouni, Boulaye Dia, Kalidou Koulibaly, Wahbi Kazhri, Mo. Kudus, Ziyech, Hakimi and Vincent Aboubakar to have won the award from the African continent.
