Erstwhile Ghanaian footballer Anthony Baffoe has resigned from his post as CAF Deputy General Secretary, starting June 2021.

Baffoe, who was announced the Deputy General Secretary in 2017 and has been in charge of Football and Development at CAF announced his resignation earlier today, citing personal reasons for his resignation.

“This was a decision I took three months ago due to personal reasons. The journey which started in November 2017 sadly ends, giving way to the start of a fresh journey,” Baffoe said after announcing his resignation.

“I count myself lucky to have served CAF and being at the forefront of the administration of the game on the continent. Praise be to Almighty Allah.

“I am grateful to the CAF Executive Committee led by Patrice Motsepe for the opportunity, not forgetting former CAF President Ahmad Ahmad for seeing the potential in me at first hand.”

He added: “I leave with my head high as together with your support we achieved many milestones and crossed many hurdles as far as the development and promotion of African football is concerned.

“As the first footballer to serve in such a senior management position, I am convinced I won’t be the last. My fellow legends, thanks for the support and my family for always being my Rock,” he ended.

Baffoe in his playing days played as a defender and played for Fortuna Düsseldorf, Metz, OG Nice, FC Koln and some few other clubs. He made 25 appearances for the Black Stars, including at the 1992 and 1994 African Cup of Nations.

Baffoe previously served on FIFA and CAF Football Committees. He was also involved in organizing CAF and FIFA sanctioned tournaments. In February 2006, he was named “Director for International Relations” for the Ghana national football team.

He is the founder and General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana. In that capacity is in close contact with the FIFPro Players’ association and works in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association.

Baffoe is a FIFA Ambassador for campaign against racism, a FIFA ambassador for SOS Children’s Village and an ambassador for Play Soccer Ghana.
