As Petro Defeat Vita in Kinshasa gave AS Vita Club a tough debut, in group stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League with a disappointed home defeat. In their first game, the Congolese team lost 2-1 at home to Petro Luanda.

The competition’s highest goal scorer last season, Tiago Azulão (7 goals) opened the scoring and then set up Petro’s second goal before a late finish from Erick Kabwe halved deficit and nothing more.

Trailing 1-0 in the first half thanks to a goal from Tiago Azulao in the 32nd minute, Vita Club believed they could equalise in the second half. The Angolans added another in the 65th minute from Anderson Emanuel.

The result is of massive importance as Petro bounced back from a disappointing home draw against JS Kabylie to become co-leaders in group A with the Algerian club on four points while VClub and reigning African champions Wydad AC have yet to earn a point.
