Former New Stars Coach Gerard Mbimi died on Saturday,February 18,2023 at 74. He died after a long illness as curled from sportglitz.
Prior to his demise, the tactician had been on a pause without managing any club for the meantime, principally due to his health crisis.
The manager’s most recent dates back with Littoral club New Stars of Douala, when he took the 2017 Cameroon cup winners to the third and final round of the CAF Confederation cup in the 2018/19 season, where his team was defeated by Kenyan representatives Gor Mahia.
A man truely passionate about the game, Mbimi is known across the national territory having managed over 18 local clubs.
Mbimi Gerard left his mark in his early days of coaching in early 2000s with Mt. Cameroon, Victoria United before heading the backroom staff of Njalla Quan Sports Academy.
Mbimi equally managed legendary clubs like: TKC, Union Sportif of Douala, Aigle, Cintra of Yaounda, Vautour of Dschang and Bamboutos FC.
The latter was shortlisted for the post of head coach of the Cameroon men’s senior national team amid 77 others in 2018, after 2017 AFCON winning coach Hugo Broos was liberated.
